Port Nugent, a senior at Whitefish High School, has received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music. He will be studying for a degree in performance.
Port has participated in Crown's workshops two years in a row, one year as a scholarship recipient. Being apart of Dweezil's class improved his technique. Last year, he attended the Rock, Blues, and Bop class led by James Hogan and Brent Mason. Throughout this workshop, he was able to hone in on more improvisation.
"James' class packet included many licks and scales that I now use in my playing. I was fortunate to have small group lesson with Mike Stern, too. I remember him sharing tips on improvisation on jazz charts." - Port
Port and three other members comprise the band, Gimmic,, playing a mix of jazz fusion and rock. They may be just starting, but they’re already getting noticed.
